CITY HOSTS REGIONAL WORKSHOP TO PREPARE TEEN-DRIVER SAFETY ADVOCATES

WILSONVILLE, OR -- On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, the City of Wilsonville is hosting a "Train the Trainers" workshop for teen-driver safety advocates in partnership with the California-based nonprofit Impact Teen Drivers. The workshop is to be held at Wilsonville City Hall, 29799 SW Town Center Loop East, 8:30 am - 1:30 pm. The free, five-hour training is targeted to first-responders, educators and health professionals interested in combating the leading ki ller of teens: car crashes. The training is specifically for adults, both professionals and volunteers, who offer or seek to start programs that promote teen-driver safety on a local level.
The workshop is to be facilitated by Dr. Kelly Browning, Executive Director of Impact Teen Drivers, and is designed to prepare attendees to use the nonprofit organization's materials in their local communities to further local teen traffic-safety efforts. The workshop teaches participants about issues related to distracted and reckless driving, and prepares participants to address these behaviors in the most effective manner possible.

This training conveys the most recent research concerning teen driving behaviors, attitudes, driving statistics, Graduated Driver Licensing laws and translates all the information into actionable solutions. The workshop provides participants with evidence-based tools to deliver high-energy presentations focused on the dangers of reckless and distracted driving. Participants will become well-versed in the "What do You Consider Lethal?" program, and learn how to effectively communicate the essentials of safe driving to teens, parents and members of their communities. Participants receive free informational handouts, guides and templates for facilitating related discussions and delivering presentations.
Impact Teen Drivers (ITD) is based in Sacramento, California and provides evaluated and evidence-based programs, materials and campaigns to reach teens, parents, and community members about the dangers of reckless and distracted driving.
