Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a HazMat emergency last night at 10:52 PM. The emergence was at 715 NW Hoyt St, the main transfer station for the United States Postal Service in Portland. Upon arrival fire crews found a unknown chemical that leaked out of a package that had gone through the mail. Fire crews immediate called for a HazMat response. USPS employees and fire crews found that the package had come from the airport and backtracked it's path to the facility. Airport fire crews responded to a secondary site where the package had been transferred and a spill identified.

After investigating, Hazmat crews found that the leaking substance was concentrated drain cleaner. The chemical was neutralized and contained at both locations by 12:41 AM.
