December 20, 2014-- Package thefts increase during this holiday time of year as many gifts and other items are shipped and left on porches. Sheriff's Deputies have pre viously arrested people for stealing delivered packages off of porches and have arrested another person for the same crime.

On December 19, 2014, at 2:06 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies were called to the 8200 block of SW 165th Avenue in the community of Aloha concerning a package theft. An alert citizen reported he saw an unknown man take a package off of his neighbor's porch then ride away on a bicycle. The citizen discreetly followed the man on the bicycle to a residence at the 8300 Block of SW 158th Avenue. The bicycle was hidden beside the residence and the rider went behind the house.

The citizen called Sheriff's Deputies and showed them the house where the potential thief went to. Sheriff's Deputies contacted Brandon Vogel, 22, from Aloha, at the house and discovered it was his residence. Deputies found the item that matched the description of the package stolen off of the porch on SW 165th Avenue. Sheriff's Deputies were able to confirm this was the package that was believed to have been stolen by Mr. Vogel.

After returning the item to the rightful owner, Sheriff's Deputies were called back to Mr. Vogel's residence by family members who located many more stolen items and associated shipping packaging hidden throughout the house. Sheriff's Deputies found adult and children's clothing, sports equipment, toys and many other assorted items (photo attached). Many of the boxes had delivery labels with addresses from the southern Aloha area and were confirmed stolen. Some of the address labels were torn off, while some had the labels intact.

Deputies recovered dozens of additional items that they were matching with the packaging and shipping orders. This afternoon, several of the items were returned to the rightful owners (photo attached).

Brandon Scott Vogel was lodged in the Washington County Jail. He was charged with Second and Third Degree Theft. He was held on $5,000 bail prior to his release.

As the holiday shipping season is very busy, The Washington County Sheriff's Office advises to use secure shipping methods or have packages delivered when the receiver will be at the delivery location.
