The Milwaukie Police Department has identified 32-year-old Joaquin Mario Caro as a suspect in the homicide of 43-year-old Kenneth Scham. On Tuesday October 21st, 2014 Milwaukie Police Detectives sent information about Joaquin Mario Caro to all police agencies in the Clackamas County and Portland/Metro area notifying them he had been identified as a suspect in the homicide.

Later that day, during an unrelated police investigation, Joaquin Mario Caro was recognized by officers from the Portland Police Bureau. Mr. Caro was taken into custody and Milwaukie Detectives were notified. He is currently lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on a parole violation.

The investigation is on-going.

On October 20th at about 10:45 p.m. Milwaukie Police responded to assist fire/medical at 2204 SE Bluebird Street in Milwaukie. A male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy conducted today indicated the victim died of homicidal violence.

The 43-year-old victim has been identified as Kenneth Scham, who had recently been staying with friends living in the apartment complex.

Police detectives with the Clackamas County Major Crimes Task Force have identified a suspect in this case. The identity of the suspect cannot be released at this time. This incident was NOT a stranger-to-stranger crime, and there is no risk to the public.
