A tip provided to the Oregon State Police (OSP) helped lead to the arrest of the driver involved in an early Saturday morning pedestrian-involved serious injury hit & run crash on Highway 62 in White City. The involved vehicle was also located and seized p ending the ongoing investigation.
On October 6, 2014, OSP received a citizen's tip that led troopers to a White City-area business parking lot where a black 1997 Dodge Ram pickup with fresh body damage was parked. The pickup had damage to the right front marker light, right front bumper and passenger side mirror. Troopers identified the vehicle's owner as GEORGE V. PRAUSS, age 34, from White City, and contacted him at his place of employment.
Subsequent to the ongoing investigation, OSP arrested PRAUSS and lodged him in the Jackson County Jail for Felony Hit & Run, DUII, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
His arrest is related to an incident on October 4, 2014 at approximately 3:15 a.m., when an adult male identified as CHRISTOPHER JOSEPH THOMPSON, age 41, was struck by an unknown vehicle on Highway 62 near milepost 7 in front of the White City Goodwill store. THOMPSON was found critically injured, lying in the right turn lane in front of the store's entrance. He was transported by Mercy Flights to Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment.
OSP issued news releases to local media requesting the public's help to identify the vehicle and driver. OSP thanks the media and public's help related to this investigation.
