GRESHAM POLICE INVESTIGATING A SHOOTING, 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL STRUCK BY BULLET THROUGH WALL OF AN APARTMENT

Gresham, Ore.-On Saturday, October 18th, 2014 at approximately 9:00 AM, Gresham Police were called to the intersection of SE 190th and SE Yamhill on a report of shots being fired in the area. Within a few seconds another call came in to police about a 10-year-old girl that had been inside her nearby apartment and was struck in the leg by a bullet that came through a wall. The girl was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Hospital for treatment. Her current condition is unknown but her injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
Through the initial investigation, police learned that the suspect was a male wearing all dark clothing and was last seen running east from SE 190th and SE Yamhill. No additional information is available about the suspect at this time. Gresham Police detectives, crime scene technicians, a canine team and gang team officers were called to the scene to investigate what led up to this incident. There was damage to a few different apartments in the Rain Tree apartment complex located at 878 SE 187th ave. Police do not believe that there is any connection between the suspect and the 10-year-old girl, rather that the girl appears to have been hit by an errant bullet that come through the wall of her apartment while she was inside.
Anyone that witnessed the shooting incident that has not yet been contacted by investigators is asked to call Gresham Police.
