CITY HOSTS OPENING NIGHT GALA FOR NINE-DAY BEAVERTON ARTS MIX! ON OCT. 4

The Beaverton Arts Mix! (BAM!), the city's nine-day juried art show and sale, invites the public to its Opening Night Gala and reception on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 7-8:30 p.m. in meeting rooms A and B at the Beaverton City Library (12375 SW 5th Street).
Visitors can meet with the artists and enjoy refreshments while enjoying Brazilian street music (choro) performed by Rio Con Brio.
"The gala allows the public to make closer connections between the artist and art work," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "It's fun to hear about everyone's creative processes and experience all of the unique art pieces."
During the event, attendees will also have a chance to vote for their favorite artworks and honor one with the People's Choice award. The winner of the People's Choice award receives $100.
Additional awards will be given to BAM! artworks in the following categories: $500 for Best of Show, $300 Honorable Mention awards (three recipients). Nicole Rawlins, Multnomah Arts Center's adult visual arts director, will select the 2014 Best of Show and Honorable Mention award winning works. Those awards will be announced during the gala. The People's Choice will be awarded on Oct. 12 after ballots have been counted at the end of the show.
This year, the 30-year-old Beaverton Visual Arts Showcase was reimagined into BAM! The new event features:
* More than 120 works of fine art in a variety of media
* Outdoor Quick Draw on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon
* Oregon Humanities Conversation Project forum on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
* The Beaverton Civic Theatre's production of "Into the Woods" from Oct. 3-18. (www.BeavertonCivicTheatre.org)
* Several children's art activities throughout the week hosted by the Beaverton City Library. (www.BeavertonLibrary.org/Kids)
