The Beaverton City Library (12375 SW Fifth St) invites the public to attend its Oregon Reads event with special guest author, Brian Doyle, on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

"Oregon Reads is a great program for all ages," said Abigail Elder, library director. "This statewide program, encourages Oregonians to read the same book. We are very excited to listen to Oregon's award-winning novelist, Brian Doyle."

Award-winning Oregon author, Brian Doyle, will speak about how William Stafford's peace writings inspired his own. Doyle is the editor of Portland Magazine at the University of Portland and the author of many novels, including 'Mink River' and 'The Plover.' There will also be a book-signing following the presentation.

In 2009, the Oregon Library Association established the Oregon Reads program. This year commemorates Oregon's most celebrated poet, William Stafford. Stafford taught at Lewis & Clark College for 30 years and served as Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress. Stafford also received many honors during his lifetime, including the National Book Award

The Beaverton City Library is open seven days a week and is one of the busiest libraries in the state. Currently, the library serves a population of nearly 150,000 Beaverton and Washington County residents with an annual circulation of 3.5 million items.

The City of Beaverton has two libraries, featuring a collection of more than 410,000 items. The library's mission is to provide information, library materials and library services to meet the needs of the community.
