DRIVER CITED AFTER NON-INJURY CRASH INVOLVING VAN AND 2 COMMERCIAL TRUCKS - HIGHWAY 26 AT GOVERNMENT CAMP (PHOTO)

Highway 26 is open in both directions following Thursday morning's non-injury traffic crash involving two commercial trucks and a van on Highway 26 at the east end of Government Camp Loop Road on Mt. Hood. The Oregon State Police (OSP) investigation resulted in a citation issued to one of the involved drivers.
On September 25, 2014 at approximately 6:26 a.m., a van driven by DEVIN JOHNSON, age 26, from Welches, was stopped on Government Camp Loop Road waiting to turn left (eastbound) onto Highway 26 as a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer was also stopped eastbound to turn left into the Government Camp rest area. As the van pulled into the westbound lane, it turned in front of a westbound commercial truck. The truck's driver swerved to the left clipping the front of the van and then slid broadside, colliding into the front of the east-facing stopped truck.
The collision blocked most of Highway 26 for over 3 hours before the road was cleared. The westbound lane and Government Camp Loop Road were used to move traffic around the scene.
OSP investigation resulted in JOHNSON being cited for Fail to Yield Right of Way. Senior Trooper Jim Neufeldt is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Hoodland Fire District and ODOT.
