Vancouver, Wash. -On September 3, 2014, schools starts in both the Vancouver and Evergreen School Districts and Vancouver Police will begin conducting extra enforcement in-and-around schools. Here are a few reminders to make sure the school year starts off safely.
* Speed in school zones is 20 m.p.h.
* Obey all crosswalk signals (both pedestrians and drivers) and crossing guards.
* Drivers must stop, and must not pass, a school bus with paddles out.
* No texting, talking and driving.
* All occupants of a vehicle must wear a seat belt and kids must be in an appropriate car seat or booster seat. Kids 13 and under must ride in the back seat.
* Everyone (adults included) riding a bike, skateboard, scooter, or roller blades, must wear a bike helmet. Vancouver has a helmet ordinance.
