August 10, 2014 - Washington County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the North Plains Gliderport on a report of a plane crash. The pilot was the only occupant in the plane. He sustained minor injuries a nd was able to walk away from the crash.

On Sunday afternoon at 12:34 p.m., deputies responded to the North Plains Gliderport located at 11870 NW Dersham Road, North Plains. Upon arrival deputies learned the pilot, John Kimmel age 53 of Milwaukie, was attempting take off from the Gliderport when his engine lost power. He attempted to turn the plane around and land back at the Gliderport but crashed in a neighboring field.

The 1991 RV-3M amateur built single engine fixed wing plane sustained significant damage. However, Mr. Kimmel was able to exit the plane on his own power. The FAA responded to the scene to follow up on the incident.
