August 19, 2014, Sheriff's Office employee arrested for Custodial Sexual Misconduct.

On July 28, 2014, the Washington County Sheriff's Office learned of possible criminal conduct concerning Brett Robinson, a civilian Jail Services Technician (JST) employed by the Washington County Sheriff's Office since January of 2013. It was alleged that Ms. Robinson had engaged in criminal activity related to her official duties while working in the Washington County Jail. This information was discovered during the investigation of Jill Curry, another JST who was arrested on July 16, 2014, on similar allegations.

When Ms. Robinson returned to work on July 30, 2014, Sheriff Pat Garrett immediately placed her on administrative leave. Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Detectives are completing a comprehensive independent criminal investigation into the allegations. An internal investigation will also be initiated after the criminal investigation is complete. On July 31, 2014, Ms Robinson's status was changed to unpaid leave based upon information received during the ongoing investigation and the seriousness of the charges.

Today, August 19, 2014, Ms. Robinson was arrested after a Washington County Grand Jury indicted her on allegations of six counts of first degree Custodial Sexual Misconduct and six counts of first degree Official Misconduct. Ms. Robinson turned herself in to authorities at the Washington County Jail where she posted $120,000 bail.

While there is a presumption of innocence in our justice system, any employee accused of serious misconduct must be dealt with immediately and appropriately. The Washington County Sheriff's Office investigates all complaints thoroughly and holds all employees accountable for their actions to maintain the highest professional standards. Consistent with other serious incidents involving public safety personnel, when the allegations first arose, Sheriff Garrett immediately requested a comprehensive independent criminal investigation. At the conclusion of these cases, consistent with a critical incident, an administrative review will be completed for a review of jail operations; the review team will include members from an outside agency.

Sheriff Pat Garrett released the following statement, "I consider allegations that involve a second Jail staff member in this case extraordinarily serious. Addressing these issues demands immediate changes and a thorough, holistic review of protocols within the jail - both efforts are underway. Safety and security of jail staff and inmates remains a very high priority. I am very thankful to investigators from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Police for their excellent work on this case."

This information is being released in an effort to keep the community apprised of important developments without compromising any part of the ongoing criminal and internal investigations. No additional information is available at this time.
