PRELIMINARY INFORMATION: FATAL BICYCLE-INVOLVED CRASH - INTERSTATE 84 WESTBOUND WEST OF HOOD RIVER

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Hood River County Sheriff's Office, are starting an investigation into a fatal traffic crash involving a bicyclist and pickup in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near Viento State Park west of Hood River. The westbound lanes are blocked at this time and travelers on westbound Interstate 84 should consider using an alternative route such as Highway 14 in Washington State and Highway 26 over Mt. Hood in Oregon.
On August 24, 2014 at approximately 6:25 a.m., OSP was notified of a crash involving a bicyclist and pickup in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near milepost 56. When emergency responders arrived, they confirmed the bicyclist was deceased and came to rest in the traffic lanes.
