(Hillsboro, Oregon) - Hillsboro Fire & Rescue will recognize four local citizens including two pre-teen girls for saving the life of a four year old boy at a church pool party. The life-saving award will be presented Tuesday, August 19th at City Council meeting (7 pm) at the Hillsboro Civic Center, 150 E Main Street.

The award stems from a near-drowning that occurred at a residential pool on Wednesday, August 6th at about 6 pm. Hillsboro Firefighter/Paramedics and Metro West Ambulance responded to the incident. When they arrived they found the boy conscious but with abnormal breathing. He was able to answer questions and assist medics by holding the oxygen mask to his face.
Witnesses said there were 10 children and three adults at the party when swimmers Elizabeth Waters and Lucy Moss, both nine years old, noticed four year old Brady Andersen floating motionless. The girls swam over, realized he was unconscious, and noticed his lips were blue. Working together the girls pulled the boy to the edge of the pool where Radawn Creevy quickly pulled him from the water.

When Mrs. Creevy realized the child was not breathing, she drew upon her recent training and began administering Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Brady's mother, Marissa Andersen, took over C-P-R while Mrs. Creevy called 9-1-1. Both women continued C-P-R until Hillsboro Firefighter/Paramedics and medics from Metro West Ambulance arrived. Brady was taken by Metro West to a local hospital for treatment. He was released the following afternoon, fully recovered.

"All four of these citizens acted quickly and decisively in saving this child's life," said Hillsboro Fire Chief Greg Nelson. "They are truly deserving of our "Citizen Life Saving Award".
