With approximately 15,000 people expected to attend this weekend's Willamette Country Music Festival in Brownsville off Interstate 5 between Eugene and Albany, law enforcement agencies are urging all concert-goers and area travelers to be prepared for traffic congestion and have a sober, rested driver operating every vehicle.

The Willamette Country Music Festival starts Friday, August 15, and concludes Sunday, August 17. With the expected traffic impact and increased potential for impaired drivers on area roads, Oregon State Police (OSP), Linn County Sheriff's Office, area law enforcement agencies and ODOT remind everyone that we all play an important role in keeping our roads safe.

Although it is illegal in all 50 states to drive under the influence, far too many people get behind the wheel after consuming too much alcohol. Every year, about one third of all motor vehicle traffic deaths involve one or more drunk drivers or motorcycle operators.

All travelers should be aware that law enforcement agencies nationwide are kicking off a high-visibility enforcement campaign - "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over"- August 15 through September 1, 2014. Covering the end of summer and the busy Labor Day holiday weekend, the goal is to remove impaired drivers who put lives at risk. Law enforcement officials recommend:

* Plan a safe way to travel before the start of the festivities.
* Designate a sober driver. If you wait until you're impaired, you're more likely to make a bad decision; one that could be fatal.

Everyone is urged to immediately report aggressive, dangerous, and intoxicated drivers to OSP at 1-800-24DRUNK (1-800-243-7865) or 9-1-1.
