The City of Beaverton's Bicycle Advisory Committee is hosting the seventh annual Bike Beaverton event starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7 at City Park (SW 5th Street at Hall Boulevard).

"In Beaverton, we pride ourselves on being an active and bike-friendly community," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "And for the past seven years the Bicycle Advisory Committee has provided us with an outlet to do just that. I encourage everyone to join in on the fun."

The Beaverton Police Department will lead the bike safety rodeo, a bicycle obstacle course for kids, at 1 p.m. The family-friendly bike ride will immediately follow at 2 p.m. The finale of the event will feature a free ice cream social.

All ride participants are required to wear a helmet and complete a participation waiver form. Forms are available online at www.BeavertonOregon.gov/Bike and at the event. The NW Bicycle Safety Council will inspect and/or adjust helmets as well as replace damaged helmets prior to the ride.

Bike Beaverton is presented by the City of Beaverton's Bicycle Advisory Committee, and sponsored by Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Bike N' Hike, Northwest Bicycle Safety Council, the Oregonian, Performance Bicycle, and Villasport.

The advisory committee is seeking volunteers for this year's event. Volunteers may be asked to assist with rider registration, serve as stationary corner marshals along the route or ride along with participants. Volunteers would be asked to assist from 12:30 to 4 p.m. If interested, please email contact information to BikeBeaverton2014@gmail.com.
