On 08-24-14 at about 6:00 pm, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a red 1990 Ford pickup truck with a motorcycle in the cargo area. The driver did not stop, resulting in a short pursuit. The driver was stopped by a dead end street in the 8800 block of SE Jannsen Rd, and nearly drove over a parking curb.
The driver, who was identified ad David Shawn Oroke, a 43 year old male from the Milwaukie area, fled on foot. The deputy gave chase around an apartment building, but lost sight of him after rounding several corners. Other residents of the apartment complex indicated to the Deputy they had seen the suspect run into an apartment.
The apartment renters, who were known to Mr. Oroke, came out of the apartment, and confirmed for Sheriff's Dputies that Mr. Oroke was still inside the apartment. Multiple attempts were made to contact Mr. Oroke inside the apartment, but he refused to come out.
The Clackamas County SWAT team was activated to assist in the apprehension of Mr. Oroke. After additional attempts at negotiating with Mr. Oroke were unsuccessful, chemical munitions were delivered into the apartment, which encouraged Mr. Oroke to surrender.
Mr. Oroke was taken into custody and transported to the Clackamas County Jail, where he was lodged on several outstanding arrest warrants, including Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Failure to Appear, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Additional charges of Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer and Reckless Driving will be referred to the District Attorney's Office.
