The City of Beaverton is teaming up with local radio station KUIK to help local families in need of school supplies and new backpacks. As part of its Beaverton Cares program, the city is collecting donated school supplies until Aug. 27 at the Beaverton City Library (12375 SW 5th Street. On Aug. 29, KUIK will deliver backpacks full of school supplies to local families.
"Going back to school is an exciting time, but for some families it can be stressful," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "Donating a back pack and school supplies to a struggling family can really make a difference in a child's life. I encourage you to help a local Beaverton child be better prepared for the new school year."
Acceptable donations include school supplies like backpacks, pencils, pens, notebook paper, one-inch binders, erasers, rulers, or money.
