The Vose Neighborhood Association Committee (NAC) hosts the 2014 Vose Neighborhood Picnic on Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Wonderland Park (6400 SW King Boulevard). This year's event features free food, family-friendly games, gift bags for kids, and a special performance by Eartha the Ecological Cl own at noon.

"Our neighborhood is one of the most diverse in the city with 36 percent of residents speaking another language besides English, said Penny Douglas, Vose NAC Vice-Chair. "This picnic is a great opportunity for everyone to spend time together and make us a stronger more cohesive community."

The picnic is free and will offer a variety of food choices, including chips, cheese quesadillas, hot dogs, and soda. Seating is limited at the event so residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

"This is a great way to bring our community together," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "These picnics are essential in unifying our diverse residents. They're also a delightful way to spend a summer day with family and friends."

Eartha the Ecological Clown will perform at the picnic at noon. The performance is called "Magic of Planet Earth," and will feature live animals, puppets, facts, jokes, and stories to teach children of all ages about endangered species, insects, water, and recycling. One of the stars of the show is an endangered Moluccan Cockatoo named "Major" who will perform bat and bird impressions as well as other tricks.
