Gresham, Ore. - Gresham officers arrested 4 people for DUII, including one felony arrest, and issued 40 citations during a week-long crackdown on impaired driving, July 3 through 7. Multiple citations were issued for suspended license, safety belt, and uninsured motorist violations.
The Gresham Police Department joined forces with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon Impact to conduct the targeted effort to get impaired drivers off the road. The campaign featured high-visibility enforcement and educational opportunities to learn more about safe driving habits.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, during the July 4th holidays from 2008 to 2012, 765 people lost their lives in crashes involving drivers with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more. These fatalities account for 40% of all motor vehicle traffic fatalities over this same five-year period.
