PRELIMINARY INFORMATION: FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 126W BETWEEN VENETA AND EUGENE

Oregon State Police (OSP) is still on scene investigating Wednesday afternoon's two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 126W between Veneta and Eugene that resulted in the death of one person. Names and other information not provided will be released at a later time.

Preliminary information indicates on July 16, 2014 at approximately 1:10 p.m., a passenger car driven by an adult female was westbound on Highway 126W near milepost 50 when it traveled across the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound sport utility vehicle.

The car's elderly female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At least one other person was extricated by firefighters and transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center with serious injuries.

OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are investigating.

OSP is assisted at the scene by Lane County Sheriff's Office, Eugene Springfield Fire, and ODOT. The highway is blocked and a detour in place. Tows are being dispatched to the scene to remove the vehicles. Traffic updates at TripCheck.com.
