The human remains found at Gales Creek were positively identified as belonging to Daniel Lemire, 51, from Hillsboro. Daniel Lemire was reported missing on April 15, 2014 by a family member. The family member relayed information to the Sheriff's Office that they believed Mr. Lemire was suffering from mental health issues. The family told deputies that they believed Mr. Lemire left in his truck and was going somewhere to harm himself.

On April 21, 2014, Sheriff's Deputies located Mr. Lemire's truck at the Gales Creek Campground located on Highway 6, west of Banks. Washington County Sheriff's Office activated its Search and Rescue team, assisted by volunteers, searched the area for over three days. After exhausting all clues and possible evidence, the full scale search was suspended without locating Mr. Lemire.

The human remains located in the Gales Creek area on May 14, 2014, were identified through Oregon State Crime Lab analysis as belonging to Mr. Lemire. There were no signs of trauma to Mr. Lemire. It appears that he may have succumbed to the elements causing his death.

May 14, 2014, Deputies are seeking the identity of human remains found in the Gales Creek area today.

On May 14, 2014, at about 4:30 p.m., Washington County Sheriff's Deputies were called to a rural area in the community of Gales Creek concerning found human remains. Deputies were called by a Clean Water Services contractor that was spraying noxious weeds along Gales Creek about a half mile west of SW Roderick Road. The contractor took deputies to a secluded area where the decomposed human remains were located.

There were no immediate signs of violence that may have been a cause in the death. It is believed the remains are from an adult, but that is yet to be confirmed.

The Washington County Forensic Science Unit responded to search for evidence and process the scene. The Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on May 15, 2014 to determine the identity and cause of death.
