Reliability improvement, repairs interrupt day-time power in Mosier May 22
Maintenance and new equipment to benefit customers

MOSIER, Oregon--Approximately 600 Pacific Power customers in Mosier, Ore., will experience a six-hour electric service outage from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 as Pacific Power crews safely make two essential repairs that will improve local electrical service reliability for customers..

"In order to serve you better, we need to replace a storm-damaged pole and some key connectors, and also tighten the primary wire to keep it more stable in high winds in a challenging hillside location," said Sheila Holden regional community manager. "We will also be installing new equipment near the school where a semi-truck struck a pole earlier. The new equipment will allow us to more quickly restore any future local outages that occur by shifting the power supply from other facilities."

Pacific Power Operations contacted Mosier city officials, and together they concluded that a day-time outage would likely be less inconvenient to customers. "We learned that so many residents work out of town, a day-time outage could reduce or minimize inconvenience, overall," said Holden. "An additional factor is that school is out both May 22 and 23, so the outage interruption won't impact the school day."

Those customers directly affected have been notified individually. In addition, Wasco County will make reverse 911 calls to the impacted area. It is possible that high winds forecast in the area could cause the work to be delayed for another time. If that occurs, Pacific Power will again notify customers about the re-scheduled work.

Pacific Power encourages customers to prepare in advance for this planned power outage and for any unexpected outages that occur due to severe weather or other causes throughout the year. Please remember to charge your cell phone and/or have extra batteries ready before the May 22 outage begins. It's always a good idea to assemble a preparedness kit that includes the following items in the event of any type of emergency:

* A flashlight
* Blankets
* Non-perishable foods
* Battery-operated radio and clock
* A manual can opener
* Extra batteries
* Bottled water
* First aid kit

Customers with anyone in the home on life-support equipment need to always be sure to have a back-up system and a plan of action in preparation for an outage. If there are any concerns regarding these circumstances, please contact Pacific Power customer service, 1-888-221-7070.

"Despite planning with local officials, we understand this may still cause inconvenience to some customers, but for safety reasons we must de-energize our lines while our crews perform these necessary upgrades to our equipment and all customers and the community will benefit from the maintenance and improvements," said Holden.

Customers with questions about the planned outage can call Pacific Power toll free at 1-888-221-7070. Any outages during that time outside the affected area should continue to be reported to Pacific Power at 1-877-508-5088.
