PRELIMINARY INFORMATION: FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 97 NORTH OF MADRAS IN JEFFERSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Saturday morning's fatal traffic crash along Highway 97 about fifteen miles north of Madras that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to a passenger in the victim's pickup. Names of the involved persons will be released after confirmation of next of kin notifications.
On May 17, 2014 at approximately 12 noon, a pickup with two occupants was traveling southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 76 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed into the northbound lane and struck the side of a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer. The pickup came to rest off the highway on its wheels.
The pickup's driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the pickup was transported by ambulance to St. Charles Madras hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The truck driver was not transported for any reported injury.
OSP troopers from Bend and Madras offices are investigating.
OSP is assisted at the scene by Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Fire Rescue, and ODOT.
