Beaverton residents are invited to submit ideas for the theme of this year's Beaverton Celebration Parade. Ideas must be submitted by Friday, June 20 at 5 p.m. The theme winner will receive a prize package that includes a 'celebrity' ride in the 57th annual parade on Saturday, Sept. 6. The winner will be notified the last week of June.

"This contest allows one of our residents to put his or her own touch on a long-standing community tradition," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "It's fun that residents can participate and help shape our annual celebration."

The Beaverton Celebration Parade began in 1957 and has grown into a neighborhood tradition. This year's parade will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6 beginning at 10 a.m.

Residents can submit their ideas by sending:

* An e-mail to events@beavertonoregon.gov
* A letter to City of Beaverton, Attn: Victor Sin, Events Coordinator, P.O. Box 4755, Beaverton, OR 97076
* A fax to 503-526-2479

Residents can also drop off ideas in-person to the Mayor's Office located at City Hall, 4755 SW Griffith Drive, Third Floor.

Previous parade themes have included Everything is Golden; Community Pride...City Wide; Dancing in the Streets; A Vision of the Future; The Many Faces of our City; and Community - For One and All.
