On March 11th, 2014, at about 7am, Sherwood Police responded to a 911 call in the 15800 block of SW Baler Way on a reported dog bite. Officers spoke with the victim, Mr. Aaron Shields of Sherwood, who reported that both he and his dog were bitten by an unattended aggressive dog, described as a Pit-Bull.
According to the victim, he and his dog were just leaving their house when they were confronted by the aggressive dog. The aggressive dog immediately attacked the victim's dog, and when the victim tried to intervene, he too was bitten by the aggressive dog. After failed attempts to intervene, the victim retreated into his home where he obtained a knife. He returned and again tried to intervene, this time with physical force, but again was unsuccessful, so he stabbed the aggressive dog until it stopped the attack.
The victim's dog was taken to a Veterinarian for treatment and the victim went to the hospital for treatment.
The owner of the aggressive dog, Mr. Jeremy Scott of Sherwood, was located and cooperated with police officers. The aggressive dog did not survive it's wounds and was recovered by Washington County Animal Control. Mr. Scott was cited for violation of Municipal Code 6.04.050-Dangerous Dog prohibited and faces up to a $500 fine in Sherwood Municipal Court.
Sherwood Police will provide advice on how to handle dog attacks on their Facebook page.
