The City of Beaverton Neighborhood Program invites community members interested in volunteer opportunities in their neighborhood to attend an annual Neighborhood Association Committee (NAC) Training and Orientation on Wednesday, March 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Beaverton Activities Center, Large Community Room, 12500 SW Allen Blvd.

The free training covers various topics to help foster leadership, while encouraging community members to work together to achieve NAC goals.

"The NACs are great forums to identify community needs and to develop programs to address them," said Bill Wood, West Beaverton NAC board member and founder of the NAC's Pages as Pillars program. "You have a group of people who know their community, care about the community and are willing to get involved."

Topics include the qualities of a successful neighborhood association, the tools that the Neighborhood Program offers for strengthening and growing your NAC, ways to get involved in and design your own community projects, and how to utilize social media to share your NAC with a larger community.

"Beaverton is an extremely supportive city that is willing to help in any way possible," said Wood. "Please go to your NAC meeting and join with your neighbors to find ways that will better our community. Together, we can build a better Beaverton!"

There will also be opportunities to network with other leaders in the Beaverton community, including both veteran and new NAC board members and City of Beaverton Neighborhood Program staff. Information will be provided about additional free trainings provided by the Neighborhood Program that community members can attend.

Dinner will be provided. Please RSVP to Neighborhood Program Coordinator Jason Wachs at 503-526-2543 or jwachs@BeavertonOregon.gov by Monday, March 10.
