GRESHAM POLICE TO HOST CITIZEN'S ACADEMY--CITIZENS GET A CHANCE TO LEARN THE BASICS OF POLICE WORK

Gresham, Ore -Exactly how are officers used for traffic enforcement? Does the Gresham Police have a SWAT team and what are they called to? When do police use a canine to track a suspect? These questions and more will be answered in an upcoming Citizen's Academy hosted by the Gresham Police Department. The academy is an opportunity for citizens of Gresham to learn about the operations of the police department and interact with officers.
The academy will run seven weeks and cover a variety of topics related to how the Gresham Police provide service to the public they serve. Among the topics covered will be:
* Police K-9
* Gangs
* District Attorney's office
* Traffic enforcement
* Defensive tactics and use of force
* SWAT
* Code enforcement
Applications are available at the records section of the Gresham Police Department, located at 1333 NW Eastman Pkwy, Gresham. Completed forms must be turned in by March 21. The Academy will run on consecutive Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning April 3.

When: Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Scheduled dates are:

Who may apply: Citizens of Gresham or Citizens who own a business in Gresham. Applicants will be required to pass a background check.
