At GPD's annual meeting on March 8, 2014, awards were given to citizens and officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty for the past year. These awards are nominated by and voted on by police department members.

The first award is Volunteer of the Year, which is given to a citizen who dedicates time to improve the community of Gladstone. This year's recipient was Erica Brown, who is the daughter of Gladstone Officer Bob Maple. For the past 4 years Erica has been the team captain for the Gladstone PD Penguins, who participate in the Polar Plunge. The Gladstone PD Penguins have raised over $6000 dollars over the past 4 years for the Special Olympics.

The next award was for Citizen of the Year, which is given to citizen who has helped another or helped to improve the community's public safety. This year's recipient was Steve Leitz owner of Baskin Robins in Gladstone. Steve's dedication to organize the businesses of Gladstone in crime prevention has made the community safer and more aware of crime. Steve also donated over 1000 coupons for a scoop of ice cream to the school resource officer to hand out throughout the year to deserving students.

Employee of the Year is an award given to an employee that goes above and beyond in their duties and reflects GPD's core values. This year that award was given to Officer Tony Fich.
The Chief's Award is decided solely by the Chief of Police, Jim Pryde and is for an employee that has worked to improve GPD behind the scenes - sort of an unsung hero. This year the Chief's award went to two recipients, Officer Eric Graves and Maria Aikins.

A special thanks to guest speaker Mark Koberstein for his inspirational words. Mark is the President of the Clackamas County Peace Officers' Benevolent Foundation and a retired Clackamas County Sheriff Deputy.

Congratulations to all award recipients; they represent the city of Gladstone and the Gladstone Police Department very well!
