DRIVER TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR MENTAL EVALUATION FOLLOWING EARLY SATURDAY ATTEMPT TO ELUDE IN SPRINGFIELD

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Springfield police, took a 19-year old female into custody for a mental health examination after a low speed attempted to elude early Saturday morning.
On March 8, 2014 at approximately 12:03 a.m., an OSP trooper attempted to stop a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander for a traffic violation on South A Street at 16th Street in Springfield. The driver failed to yield to the trooper's emergency lights and siren, continuing east on Main Street at approximately 45 - 50 mph before heading westbound on Highway 126W.
An OSP trooper set up spike strips near Mohawk Boulevard, successfully spiking the right side tires. OSP and Springfield police continued following the vehicle as it continued westbound before another trooper successfully spiked the left side tires near Pioneer Parkway.
At approximately 12:12 a.m., the driver stopped on Highway 126W near milepost 3. The driver refused to comply with verbal commands and was eventually physically removed from the vehicle without injury to her.
The 19-year old female driver from California was taken by OSP to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend for a mental health evaluation. A charge of Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle is pending.
