News Release from Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office
Posted on FlashAlert: March 7th, 2014 10:27 AM
Detectives from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse Team are investigating a child abuse case that has resulted in the arrest of the suspect in Fremont County, Idaho.
Suspect:
Andrews, Christopher Martin 4-11-87
Charges:
Sodomy I
Use of a Child in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct
Sexual Abuse I
Possession of Materials Depicting Sexually Explicit Conduct of a Child I
Detectives with Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse Team began investigating a report of sexually explicit photos of a child found on the suspect's cellular phone. The investigation led detectives to learn of the sexual abuse of a young child. Efforts to locate the suspect and protect the young child were thwarted by an unprotective parent. Eventually it became apparent that the suspect, the unprotective parent, and the child were no longer in Oregon. Child Abuse Team detectives expanded their search with an arrest warrant so that police across the nation would seek out the subjects. On March 6th, 2014 deputies and investigators from the Fremont County (Idaho) Sheriff's Office located the three subjects. The child was placed into protective custody and Mr. Andrews and the child's parent that was present were arrested.
Both were arrested in Ashton, Idaho. Both are in custody in the Fremont County Jail in St. Anthony, Idaho.
The child's arrested parent is not being named as this would likely identify the child and the child is a victim of sexual abuse and will not be named. That person will be charged with Criminal Mistreatment I, Child Neglect II, and Hindering Prosecution.
Detectives from the Child Abuse Team are continuing to work closely with the Fremont County Sheriff and the Oregon Department of Human Services.
Questions about child abusers and how to protect our children from them are addressed in the linked article by Cory Jewell Jensen, who is a member of the board of directors of the Child Abuse Summit:
