Following the arrest of two people Tuesday related to a search after an attempt to elude in a remote area of south Jefferson County, Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team, arrested 3 more people including the third person who had avoided capture earl ier. The names of the persons arrested are released in this update as the investigation is continuing.
Updated information indicates on February 25, 2014 at approximately 10:32 a.m., an OSP sergeant attempted to stop a green 1999 Dodge Intrepid displaying Washington license plates for traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph speed zone on Highway 97 near milepost 101 south of Madras. The driver failed to yield and attempted to elude OSP, turning off Highway 97 onto SW Bear Drive where the sergeant lost sight of the vehicle.
OSP notified other law enforcement agencies as additional OSP personnel responded to the area. About an hour later, vehicle tracks were found west of SE Jasper Road near SE Imbler Lane and the confirmed stolen vehicle was located unoccupied about 12:07 p.m.
With the assistance of Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement and Warm Springs Police Department K-9, OSP troopers continued searching the area. At approximately 1:30 p.m., three suspects were located. One of the suspects, an adult male, fled on foot while officers took the two people into custody. At approximately 2:30 p.m., OSP and assisting officers concluded the area search without finding the third suspect at that time.
The female driver was identified as ALLISON MAYE ELDRED, age 31, from Vancouver, Washington. She was arrested as a Fugitive from Justice based upon a Washington State warrant held by Department of Corrections for Escape from Community Custody. She was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail.
The male arrested was identified as NICHOLAS S. ELDRED, age 34, from SE Portland. He was lodged in Jefferson County Jail for Conspiracy to Possess and Manufacture a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine. OSP seized approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine associated with this incident.
During the evening, OSP troopers, with the assistance of CODE team members, identified the other male who fled during the initial area search. DUSTIN JAMES NASH, age 42, from LaPine, was arrested by OSP and CODE during a traffic stop north of Terrebonne. The ongoing investigation learned NASH called and arranged to be picked up by two friends as he tried to avoid capture. NASH was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Unlawful Possession, Distribution, and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine.
The two people in the vehicle with NASH were arrested for Hindering Prosecution. They were identified as BENJAMIN DEAN MORGANTI, age 45, and JULIA LYNN PINCKNEY, age 42, both from LaPine.
An investigation is continuing and no other information is being released at this time. Additional charges may be pending.
