TROUTDALE POLICE RESPOND TO SELF INFLICTED GUN SHOT WOUND FRIDAY MORNING

On Friday 02-28-14 at about 6:20AM Troutdale Police were dispatched to a shooting in the 1400 block of SE Chapman St. Information given to them was an Iraq War veteran was suicidal and had shot himself in the foot. As Officers arrived they coordinated through the 911 dispatcher to have the wife and children leave the house. Officers contacted the subject, identified as 30 year old resident Derick Morgan, in the house and took him into custody without incident. Morgan was transported to the hospital with a gunshot would to his foot.
The Investigation revealed that Morgan has PTSD and put a gun to his head in front of his wife stating that he was going to kill himself before shooting himself in the foot.
Morgan has been placed on a Police Officer hold and will be charged with multiple crimes including Discharge of a firearm and Reckless endangering. His family was not harmed in this incident. The case will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
