Silver ton, OR - Silverton Fire District held their annual Awards Banquet on Saturday February 15th. The evening was a celebration and a time to recognize a few outstanding members of our organization.

Firefighter Ray Dandeneau was awarded Firefighter of the year. He volunteers and responds to calls from the District's Main Station. Ray has been a volunteer with Silverton Fire since early January 2010. He is known for his participation at many levels including assisting with the annual food and toy drive, participating in Public Education events, responding to several calls as well as attending many training events. Volunteer personnel are our number one resource and Ray is a dedicated member of this group that puts the community first.

Officer of the year was awarded to Captain Alan Mann. He volunteers and responds out of the Abiqua Station. Alan has been a volunteer with Silverton Fire since September 1982 and since that time his efforts in recruiting more volunteer members has made a very big impact on the number of volunteers we have.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) of the year was awarded to EMS Coordinator Sarah Smith. She has been a volunteer with the Fire District since January 2010. Sarah spends countless volunteer hours arranging training classes, putting on public education events and doing office work. Her dedication to the community through her efforts as the EMS Coordinator is something that she takes personal and professional satisfaction in.

Rookie of the year was awarded to Firefighter Max Hughes. He has been a volunteer with Silverton Fire since January 2013 and is assigned to the District's Main Station. Max was an excellent student who started with no experience but soon excelled in the Districts training program. He is also very active in public education as well as the annual food and toy drive.

With 25 years of dedicated service under his belt, Captain Harry Klopfenstein was awarded with a lifetime membership award. Harry has spent hundreds of volunteer hours training and going on calls for the Fire District. He is also very active in donating his personal expertise and materials to the overall benefit of the Fire District.

Excellence in Service awards was presented to Support Member Jon Lieuallen, Lt. Steve Baker and Firefighter Ray Dandeneau. This award is given to members who above and beyond the call of duty to support their community.
