ODOT: PDX, Mt. Hood: Eastbound Interstate 84 will remain closed at exit 17 in Troutdale through the weekend while crews clean up a slide at milepost 61, about three miles west of Hood River. About 2,000 cubic yards of rock and debris fell from the hillside on the south side of the highway just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, 2/12/2014, forcing the closure of all eastbound lanes and one westbound lane. Only one westbound lane is getting by; travelers heading west from Hood River can expect long delays and slow traffic. We hope to open at least one lane eastbound sometime Monday, 2/17/2014. One alternate route uses I-205 north into Washington State; then SR-14 east to Hood River and back across the Hood River Bridge to continue on I-84 east. Please expect heavy traffic, delays and backups on this route. Truckers, please note: Oversized loads are NOT allowed on SR-14 between Washougal and Hood River; SR-14 is NOT an allowed alternate route for oversized loads. A second alternate route, U.S. 26 (Mount Hood Highway) east to OR 35, and then north to I-84 in Hood River, could be affected by expected heavy rain and snow, so please exercise extreme caution: Visit TripCheck.com before you go; slow down and leave more room between cars; expect delays and slow-moving trucks.
