On the afternoon of Tuesday February 25th, two men broke into a vacant house on S. Feldheimer Road in Estacada, Oregon. While trying to steal gasoline from a vehicle in the garage, a fire was started that quickly spread to the house. A witness saw the suspects leave quickly in a vehicle. The vehicle located by Clackamas County patrol deputies responding to the incident. The two suspects were arrested and lodged in the Clackamas County jail.

On Tuesday February 25th at about 3:45 pm, a witness observed two men in a white Subaru pull onto the property of a vacant home at the end of South Feldheimer Road near the Clackamas River. The witness observed the vehicle park in a secluded area and saw two men walk to the rear of the house.

The witness called 911 when, a short time later, he saw the Subaru quickly drive away, and realized the house was now on fire. Thanks to the witness's quick report and detailed information, an alert Deputy from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office who was on patrol in the area, located the suspect vehicle leaving the scene.

The fire quickly spread through the house and caused severe damage. Members from the Estacada Fire District, Boring Fire District, Clackamas Fire District, and Canby Fire District responded to extinguish the blaze.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and spoke to the slightly singed occupants, 48 year old James Carden of Estacada and 22 year old Richard Gardner of Eagle Creek.

The suspects told the deputies they were trying to steal gas from a vehicle in the garage by drilling through the gas tank when the fire suddenly started.

Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Clackamas County Jail. They were lodged on charges of Burglary in the First Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, with bail set at $65,000.
