On 11-07-13, at about 0115 AM, a male Sandy resident was crossing Pioneer Blvd at Meinig Avenue, when he was struck by a white box van style truck. The truck did not slow or stop, leaving the victim laying on the street with serious injuries.
Detectives reviewed video captured from various sources that night, and observed a vehicle matching the description given to officers on the night of the event.
On 11-09-13, CCSO personnel recovered a burned out box van style truck, that matched the descriptions given to officers. The vehicle had license plates on it that were registered to a business in Salem, but the business reported no vehicles missing. Recently, we discovered through forensic evidence that the truck was stolen in Bonner County Idaho, on 11-06-13. More evidence is being analyzed, and investigators hope to learn the identity of those involved.
The Sandy Police Department is requesting anyone with information of the events of that night, or who might have information relating to the hit and run, the theft of the box van style truck, or the theft of the license plate found on the truck. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sandy Police Department.
