On January 5, 2014, at approximately 12:30PM Officers from the Vancouver Police Department responded to 13714 NE 28th Street after receiving numerous 9-1-1 calls about a hazardous situation. Callers reported a male cutting down a large tree with a crowd of people and hous es nearby. Before Officers could arrive, the tree fell away from the direction the cutter desired it to fall.

The tree, approximately 110 feet tall and 4 foot in diameter fell into the public easement, across a sidewalk and landed in the travel lanes of NE 28th Street blocking the roadway. While falling, the tree knocked down an electrical power line to the property.

The tree removal was being conducted by Viktor's Excavation of Vancouver Washington as part of a property clean up. The property owner, George Almajan, hired the business to remove an old residence and trees on property zoned as commercial property for future use.

There were no injuries in this incident. Power loss was isolated to the address of incident.

A Clark Public Utilities representative responded and disconnected the downed power line. The tree was cleared out of the roadway by City of Vancouver Public Works representatives. Due to the size of the tree, heavy equipment had to be brought to the location to assist in the removal.

The roadway was closed for traffic from approximately 12:30PM to 3:30PM.
