Gresham, Ore. - Peggy J. Jennen, 73, of Oregon City, Ore., died late last night after she was ejected from her friend's car and subsequently struck by a passing motorist in the 1800 block of NW Division Street. Jennen's friend, Lisa A. Wilson, 52, of Troutdale, Ore., is under arrest for Criminally Negligent Homicide, DUII, Reckless Driving and Reckless Endangerment.
Officers responded to 911 calls about an accident at the intersection of NW Division Street and NW Bella Vista Place at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Dec. 11. Initial reports indicated a woman may have fallen out of a vehicle and was lying in the intersection.
The investigation is ongoing as the East County Vehicular Crimes Team tries to determine exactly how and why Jennen was ejected from the passenger side of Wilson's 1999 Volkswagen Passat. Wilson was negotiating a turn from westbound NW Division Street to southbound NW Bella Vista Place when Jennen was ejected. Curtis Kato, 58, of Gresham was driving eastbound on NW Division Street in the slow lane when he struck Jennen with his 1991 Nissan Sentra. Kato, who was driving home from work, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. He was not under the influence of any intoxicants and his vehicle's speed is not a significant factor in this fatal accident.
Wilson's blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit and she was lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on $27,500 bail. She does not have any prior arrests for DUII.
