On December 4, 2013 the Vancouver Police Department will be training new Neighbors On Watch (NOW) volunteers on the use of the department's Skywatch observation tower and members of the media are invited to join the NOW group and the Neighborhood Police Officer who is providing the training to learn more about this resource and how it's used.

Date: Wednesday, December 4, 2013
Time: 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Location: Westfield Vancouver Mall (8700 NE Vancouver Mall Dr., SE lot)
The Skywatch training will provide NOW volunteers important information on the deployment and safe operation of Skywatch and will offer members of the media some great visuals, opportunities to learn more about the Vancouver Police Department's efforts to increase crime prevention and citizen partnerships through the NOW program and how Skywatch plays a role. A ride up in Skywatch is also likely to be part of the experience!

The Vancouver Police Department purchased the Skywatch tower in 2008 for just over $14,000, which included the total cost plus shipping. At that time the tower was US Military surplus from England. Since 2008, Skywatch has been used consistently as part of the Vancouver Police Department's auto prowl and auto theft prevention efforts as well as during large scale events, such as the Fourth of July, to offer a bird's eye view of a large area.
