The Vancouver Police Department is recruiting interested citizens to apply for our Spring 2014 Neighbors On Watch (NOW) academy. Applications are being accepted until January 15, 2013.

NOW volunteers receive specialized training to assist the Vancouver Police Department with its important public safety mission. Trained citizen patrollers carry police radios and spend time in neighborhoods, retail areas, and parks. The patrollers keep a watchful eye and report anything suspicious or criminal. Patrols are done by vehicle, bike and foot throughout the City of Vancouver. Volunteers also have the opportunity to assist police and detectives in a number of ways, including searches for missing children, detecting and reporting stolen vehicles, saturation patrols, crime prevention, and observing and reporting crimes in progress.

NOW is non-confrontational, highly visible, and a huge force multiplier for the police department. NOW volunteers are not allowed to carry any weapons. Applicants must be at least 21-years old, a U.S. Citizen, and live in the city limits of Vancouver. Applicants will undergo a background investigation.

Make your New Year's Resolution to help your community prevent crime! For more information on the Neighbors On Watch program and to download the application visit the Vancouver Police Department NOW page at http://bit.ly/18GTiRL.
