SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE (UPDATE)
News Release from Gladstone Police

On Monday, December 9th, 2013, at about 5:00 pm, the mother of a five month old baby contacted a Gladstone Police officer to report that she believed her child had been murdered at a motel in the City of Gladstone and his body had been disposed of in an unnamed park in Clackamas County.
Based on the information, the Gladstone Police Department activated the Clackamas County Major Crime Team to conduct the investigation. During a subsequent interview, the mother of the child was able to provide enough information to lead detectives to search a wooded area within Clackamas County. Members of the Clackamas County Search and Rescue team were activated to assist in the search of the area. On Tuesday, December 10th, 2013, at approximately 2:00 am, a search team comprised of law enforcement officers and the search and rescue team located the body of the child in a wooded area. For investigative reasons, investigators are withholding the exact location where the baby was recovered.
Investigators believe the baby was taken to the wooded area on Saturday, December 7th, 2013, between 12:15 pm and 1:40 pm. They also believe the baby was transported to the area by the occupant(s) of a blue Chevrolet Blazer with Oregon plates. The vehicle was recovered in Salem, Oregon and is no longer of interest. The mother of the baby remains cooperative with the investigation and is not considered a suspect. At this time there are no suspects in custody in this ongoing investigation.
On Tuesday, December 10, 2013, an autopsy was conducted at the office of the Clackamas County Medical Examiner. The cause of death remains undetermined pending further investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Gladstone Police Department Detective Kevin Voss at (503) 557-2762. This investigation is being conducted by members of the Clackamas County Major Crimes team and members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse Team.

The Clackamas County Major Crimes Team has been activated and is investigating. The investigation is active and ongoing therefore we will not have any further comments at this time.
