Posted on FlashAlert: December 12th, 2013 8:43 AM
Six firefighters from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue are partnering with EMPACT Northwest to provide clinical treatment and emergency medicine training to locals in Port au Prince, Haiti. The team will leave January 14th, return January 23rd, and will be working at the only critical care/trauma hospital in the country. The firefighters use vacation time and raise their own travel funds as members of EMPACT Northwest teams. This deployment will be the third mission in which members from the Hillsboro Fire Department have participated.
The members of the deployment team include: FF/Paramedics Thomas Bonin, Ben Langbehn, Paul Morris, Andrew Kindblade, FF/EMT Sam Scott, and Lt/EMT Mark Gregg. Deployment costs are approximately $1,500 and are the responsibility of the team members. To help off-set these costs, the team is partnering with local businesses as well accepting donations from the public.
On December 18th Buffalo Wild Wings-Hillsboro has agreed to donate a portion of that store's revenue to the team for each dinner who mentions Hillsboro Fire and EMPACT Northwest. Also, Tuality Healthcare-Hillsboro is helping to outfit the team by providing medical scrubs for them to wear while working in the trauma hospital.
To help support this team you can donate at http://www.empactnorthwest.org/donate/ and choose "donate to deployment volunteer". Make sure to note "Hillsboro Fire" in the notes/comments portion of the secure PayPal donation. Anyone donating at least $30 will also receive a team mission t-shirt.
