Forest Grove Firefighters were dispatched to a house at 12:40pm on Sunday December 8, located at 1306 Douglas Street in Forest Grove. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later to find flames in the garage and spreading into the attic. Firefighters made entry into the house and were able to quickly extinguish the flames in the garage and attic after approximately 10 minutes. Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading into the living portion of the house. After the fire was out, firefighters found a rabbit in a cage and were able to safely get it out of the smoky garage.

Firefighters remained on scene for a little over an hour making sure all hot spots were put out and helping to salvage any items for the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but appears to have started near an electric fuse panel. The fire is initially estimated to have caused at least $15,000 in damage.

At the time of the fire, temperatures in Forest Grove were 26 degrees and while they didn't hinder our operations, it made it slightly difficult. Firefighters can grow more fatigued while outside in cold temperatures, also with the excess water on the ground, slipping on ice can become a safety concern. Luckily no firefighters or civilians were injured and as a precaution Forest Grove Public Works spread sand on the roadways around the incident where water from fire engines was building up and starting to get slick.

(Unfortunately no photos of the rabbit are available)
