###
Fully involved fire consumes barn
With a black column of smoke visible for miles, multiple calls came into 9-1-1 at 11:38am today reporting a barn on fire at 20560 SW Edy Road in Sherwood, OR. The first crew from Sherwood Station 33 arrived quickly to find a fully-involved fire. The crew was advised that no one was inside the barn but it was suspected that a cat was possibly in the barn but it could not be confirmed. The crew immediately initiated a defensive fire attack, as additional crews arrived, to knock down the fire and minimize exposures to small trees nearby. No injuries were reported and no other structures were immediately threatened by the fire.
A water shuttle operation was setup to bring water to the scene as nearby hydrants were unavailable. Supporting water tender units from TVF&R, were water tenders and firefighters from Newberg Fire and Washington County Fire District #2. Washington County Sheriff's Office provided traffic control for the safety of firefighters along Edy Rd. In total, over 40 firefighters responded to the fire.
During the firefighting effort, small "pops" could be heard that were likely small, standard-sized propane tanks in the barn. Among the damage to the barn itself, it was reported that other items were stored inside that included at least one vehicle and farm equipment.
A TVF&R investigator is still working to determine the cause of the fire and damage estimates.
