Highway 22 east of Hebo was closed for a few hours Wednesday afternoon after a sport utility vehicle swerved to avoid a stopped passenger car and t hen collided with a power pole. The pole broke, causing power lines to come down onto the stopped car and resulted in the highway closure pending replacement of the damaged pole.

According to Trooper Jace Hall, on November 27, 2013 at approximately 1:53 p.m., a 1998 Ford Mustang driven by DANIEL DICKY, age 48, from Dallas, Oregon, was stopped westbound on Highway 22 near milepost 2 with left turn signal on preparing to turn left. A 2004 Honda Pilot towing a 15-foot camper trailer driven by DONALD JALACK, age 47, from Bend, was westbound approaching the back of the stopped Ford Mustang. JALACK didn't see the stopped car, braked and swerved the SUV to the right where it went into a ditch and struck a utility pole, snapping the pole in half near its base.

Utility wires fell onto the stopped car and across the highway. DICKY was not injured and after the wires were removed he drove his car from the scene without any other damage.

JALACK was not injured. His right front passenger, STEPHANIE JALACK, age 45, was transported by Tillamook Ambulance to Tillamook County General Hospital with minor injuries.

All involved persons were using safety restraints.

Tillamook People's Utility District personnel responded to the scene to replace the pole.

Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, Nestucca Rural Fire Protection District, and ODOT also responded and assisted at the scene.

The investigation is continuing and no citations issued at this time.
