SERIOUS INJURY TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 26 NEAR TIMBER JUNCTION (PHOTO)

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into a single vehicle serious injury traffic crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon along Highway 26 near the Timber Junction. Fatigue is a possible contributing factor and the driver's name will be released later today.
On May 28, 2013 at approximately 1:15 p.m., a 2005 Dodge Magnum driven by a 66-year old male was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 36 when the driver reportedly fell asleep. The vehicle traveled across the eastbound lane narrowly missing an oncoming log truck, went over an embankment and rolled onto its driver side about 50 feet from the highway.
The driver was extricated by fire personnel and then taken by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. He was using safety restraints and the vehicle's airbags deployed.
OSP troopers from the North Plains work site are investigating. Senior Trooper Steve Carlson is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Washington County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and fire personnel. One way alternating traffic was maintained for over 2 hours to keep the highway open during the emergency response and scene investigation.
