Firefighters Extinguish Residential Fire in Rural Setting

FIREFIGHTERS EXTINGUISH RESIDENTIAL FIRE IN RURAL SETTING
Posted: April 20th, 2013 8:42 AM

Shortly after 6:00 this morning Clackamas Fire Crews were dispatched a report of a residential fire in the rural community of Redland. Firefighters quickly arrived to find a single family residence fully involved in fire and threatening some nearby trees. Firefighters went to work confirming that nobody was inside the structure and protecting the nearby tree line from igniting. Due to the location of the home down a long gravel driveway and in rural part of this community there were no fire hydrants available for firefighters to secure a water source. Water was trucked in using 3,000 gallon water tenders from the closest fire hydrant in a technique known as rural water supply operations. This created an extra challenge for firefighters as they extinguished this blaze.

Investigators are on scene and will be conducting interviews and searching for clues as to what caused this early morning blaze. Cause and damage estimates are not known at this time.

Clackamas Fire would like to remind you that if you live in a rural community, to clearly mark your driveway with your address and consider marking how long your driveway is so firefighters can more quickly determine how much hose will be needed to reach your home.
