PEDESTRIAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER BEING STRUCK ON INTERSTATE 5.

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing its investigation into this morning's auto/pedestrian traffic collision on Interstate 5 near Aurora. About 9:05 AM, OSP Northern Command Center received multiple calls of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on I-5 near MP 281. The preliminary investigation showed a pedestrian was walking northbound on the southbound shoulder when he appeared to run into the travel lanes of the freeway. The pedestrian was then struck in the southbound 'C' lane by a one ton Chevrolet cargo truck. The pedestrian sustained severe injuries and all southbound lanes of I-5 were temporarily closed while Life Flight was landed on the freeway. He was then transported to Emmanuel hospital in critical condition.
The names of the involved parties are being withheld at this time pending contact with the pedestrian's family.
The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigating troopers. One southbound lane of I-5 was re-opened about 9:55 AM and all lanes were open by 1040 AM.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Aurora Fire, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, AMR Ambulance, and ODOT.
