A nineteen year old Hillsboro man avoided any injuries today when he lost control of his car while entering onto northbound I-5 at Nyberg Road in Tualatin. About 1:10 PM on Thursday, February 21st, Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Portland Area Command responded to a two car collision on northbound I-5 under the Nyberg overpass. According to Sgt. Duane Larson, a 1991 Acura Integra being operated by David Cole, 19, of Hillsboro was negotiating the north bound on ramp to I-5 from Nyberg Road when he lost control of his car. The Acura crossed all three northbound lanes of I-5 while rotating approximately 190 degrees before coming to a stop facing southbound in the northbound 'A' lane of I-5.
A 2011 Ford F-150 pick up, being operated by Eric Lundy, 37, of Portland, was northbound in the 'A' lane and was unable to avoid colliding with the Acura. The front of the Ford pick up ran up and over the front of the Acura and the right front wheel assembly came to rest in the windshield of the Acura. Both vehicles then slid into the median where they collided with the concrete barrier and then came to rest. One lane of I-5 was closed for about 40 minutes while the collision was investigated. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and no citations were issued at the scene but the investigation is continuing with enforcement action still possible. Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in this collision.
